In the past few years increased financial reporting requirements and corporate governance disclosures have resulted in extremely voluminous annual reports. Not only has the cost of printing and posting these reports increased dramatically, but it negatively affects our carbon footprint and our efforts to promote sustainability. The legal requirements in the South African Companies Act, which became effective on 1 May 2011, coupled with the JSE’s initiatives, allow us to now provide shareholders with summarised financial information instead of the traditional, bulky annual report.
